material choice
fellas I'm about to make the grinding rest & attachments described in 'Milling a complete course' by Harold Hall. he uses steel but I was wondering if aluminium would work as well as its not for heavy duty mainly lathe tools and milling cutters, screwdrivers etc.
It uses 50mm sq steel and smaller and not being used for heavy work I thought as I have some ally bits laying around would it be worth the effort?

Having no idea of what this jig looks like or does the only comment that I can make on the use of ali for it is that most alis are fairly soft and if you use or rest a harder material on it over time it will wear and alter its shape.
