    yeah it a shame i love that hercus as i just got it all dialed in and working too but i dont have the cash or space to keep them both. :
    also anyone know of a good cheap camera.

    well i am picking up the lathe tomorrow. the lathe only cost me $625 as i sold my hercus for $875 ( i now wish i had accepted the offer i had of $975) it should be fun getting the hercus out and getting the new one in i will try to take some pictures.

    okay i got the lathe in it works great. but it turns a taper i did the ring test tail stock end is 24.48mm the headstock end is 24.37mm.

    the bar was 25mm in diameter i extended it 140mm from the chuck. and yes i have dti.

    Set the DTI at center height on the carraige, move the carraige along to check if there is a difference between the rings.

    okay well i went out and put shims under one side of the tail stock. i then re did the ring test and i got 0.03mm difference between the rings. i then tested it with the dti and there was a 0.03 mm difference in height between the rings

    Little confused.
    Are you using a center in the tail stock?
    You put shims under the tail stock(end of the bed?)
    0.03mm big the tail stock end?
    By height you mean center height?

    Just making sure we are on the same page welder

    Time for some larger Diameter bar/pipe or a sharper tool. Looks like deflection is most of your problem now.

    Looking good Andre. Are they your chips I can see already? What are your first impressions? What are the red doovers on the chuck? They look like a centring device.
    Edit: I forgot you've been doing test cuts.

    Those RED fittings are a poor mans set true chuck.

    yep your all correct the chuck back plate does not it with a lip so you can adjust it with the red things although there is still 0.10 mm runout.
