Hi .RC,
Nice camera work, you captured the spirit of the weekend nicely...
I expect there will be a few hours of "bloopers" coming soon. When is the R-rated version scheduled for release?
Well maybe not R, but definitely M18+ with language warnings....
Thanks for putting that up.
Regards
Ray

Hi Phil,
It all get's a bit blurry after a few hours scraping.
I like the idea of a day at Sovereign Hill, got any big scraping jobs down there that would benefit from a few hamfisted amateur scrapers...
Sorry, I meant a crack team of skilled machine rebuilders...
Regards
Ray

The youtube quality of the video is a bit disappointing... I have rendered it in the format it was taken (1080 50p) and the image is far far greater then the youtube clip.... Of course it is nearly 2GB in size also for only 13 minutes of footage...

This is a full HD very short clip showing full quality... You might have trouble playing it without it stuttering...
The resolution is 1920X1080. 17MB file...

If you have a worn out machine you have several options. Live with it. Scrap it (throw it away). Take it to someone with a slideway grinder. Don't forget your credit card. Scrape it, with simple hand tools, some skill and lots of time. Take your pick.
I thought the vid looked fine too.

Gents
Just a bit of follow up and housekeeping.
Did everyone get some of the blue and yellow water based canoed to take away? That was included in your price of admission. We had some spares, but I still have few out there.
If anyone missed out, drop me a line and I’ll sort that out.
Marko’s blue was extra and for sale, that was just something we decided to do early last week. I have some syringes of that left over, and can decant the remainder of that bucket, if any one needs any. Lets call that $12 bucks including postage. For 50 ml. The 0.55 oz Dykem hi-spot blue is $21 from RS Components.
I’m sure I short changed someone with one of those Carbide EDM cut tips. I’m sure I grabbed one back from someone that had bought 2, to give Ross C something to work with. I just cant remember who that was.
If you were stiffed for a carbide tip, drop me a line, and I’ll sort it out.
Apart from that, its all good.
Regards Phil.

Almost certainly, its what we call bedding in. You mark the saddle or cross slide to the ways, so any slight variation in contact angle to the vees / flats is adjusted. And in doing that you break up the slide surface, for oil retention and to reduce stick slip.
Gib’s are still hand fitted to this day. Just to get contact full length and across the width of the gib.
Often you will undercut the saddle so that of the most contact is out at the ends, so you have the biggest moment to reduce yawing and crabbing.
We call it putting the belly in. Its not really an under cut, although some do that. You just want you blue spots much lighter in the middle so that the ends guide positively on the ways, and dont rock in the middle
Regards Phil.
