Metabo Cut Off (made in China) any good?
Have been looking at 355mm cut-off saws (new and used) - and I've noticed the Metabo ones are now "made in china".
I know Metabo has a good rep for most of their gear - but what do folk reckon about their chinese made cut-off saw? Would anyone venture that an old Mak is better, vs. a not-so-old Metabo?
Opinions please...

As long as Metabo is keeping a careful eye on what their Chinese saw makers are doing, rather then "leveraging the brand" (management talk for prostituting the brand) the Asian saws will be fine.
Odds are they jealously protect their brand and reputation, but then stranger things have happened.

Metabo cordless drills had a fine print "made in China" on their label for at least the past 6 or 7 years. I have two of them, and initially was worried about the "made in China", but have not noticed a quality issue. Mind you they were not cheap at about 8 times the price of similar Chinese made cordless drills from Bunnings. The Chinese can make top class quality products, if they get paid for top quality workmanship.
Metabo has two factories worldwide, one in Nuertingen/Germany and another in Shanghai/China. They claim that "80% of the machines are still produced in Germany"... "So, the motor housing, the gear boxes, all of the aluminum, metal and copper bits that turn your drill bit, your grinding disk or spin your saw blade are designed, engineered and manufactured in Germany, Nürtingen. At the Metabo plant. Only then are the component parts sent to their Chinese plant for assembly."
If that is still true, you should be fine with a Metabo cut-off saw made in China. Chris

I have a Metabo 355mm cut off saw. I don't do a lot of fab work with it, I mostly cut hydraulic hose, buts its done some steel work. All up I'm pleased with it.
I wasn't even aware it was made in China. I think the box's say "Engineered in Germany". I just checked and it has PRC on the motor. It all works as it should, things like the blade lock, and the spring loaded guard.
Regards Phil.
