Metal Bansaw Problem
Bought the saw in 1997 from all tools Wodonga a low priced 41/2 inch type have not had any real problems till yesterday when the blade popped off the wheels not broken, put it back on checked the wheels were in line and every thing seemed ok till I started to saw, again off came the blade, I can not see any problem the blade is sharp strait and clean guide bearings are all working, any I dears what might be the problem,as I am trying to saw up 9/16 flat bright mild steel, and a hand hack saw is out of the question, for me any way, Hope some one can help, thanks.

If the guide rollers are too tight it will pop the blade out...

You also need to have the blade MUCH tighter than you think.

Have you checked the drive and follower bearings.

If this has just happened it might have done bearing on one of the wheels. There is an adjustment on the top wheel to tilt it, check the bearings and if they are fine tilt the top of the wheel in a bit more.

Hi RC,I have not adjusted the rollers in a long time, but will check them tomorrow.
Bob L I could well have set the blade with the wrong tension it is a good blade and perhaps I have been a bit to careful not to over do it,but will tighten it up and give it a try.
Pipeclay No I have not checked some of these bearings will have to look at all this tomorrow.
DaveJ there is no tilt on the top wheel no such luxury it's a low priced machine but has done plenty of work for me I did try the top wheel bearing and it ran very smooth but can only adjust the wheel up or down.
Thank you all for the help I will check all this tomorrow, perhaps I will take it to piece's and clean it up a bit, and better able to check what;s what, I will be back and let you know.

Hi Eddie,
Have you got another blade to try? If you do try it, just to eliminate the blade as the cause.1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

Also check that the guide bearings haven't worn tapered - my 7x12 bandsaw had badly tapered guide bearings when I got it, and would throw the blade off within about 30 seconds. Worked it out when I adjusted the guide bearings to put a little more pressure on the blade, and I could actually watch the blade get squeezed out from between the bearings.

I had a similar thing happen and it ended up being the tension screw. After years of use the thread was worn and would not hold under pressure - not evident until you started to cut.
Cheers,

My saw is really old as well and it has a tilt for the top blade, just check as the tilt bolt is camouflaged on the slide for the top pulley as it looks like it's a bolt that holds it together.
You can down load a manual from the Grizzly site which will show all the workings.

I had a similar problem, the drive wheel had worn a chamfer on the outer edge.
The adjustment bolt could also be a grub screw, it is on mine.

Wow so good to get so much advise, and I thank you all .What I did to day was took all the advise that Rc, Bobl, Pipeclay, and Davej, gave me, I was going to strip the machine down but checked all the advise given then started it up and the thing gave me no more trouble ,although I must say I went very careful ,haven't as yet let the full weight do the job,so I don't really know what the real trouble was and I just finished cutting the metal that I required and left it at that thank full that I could get on with what I was doing, I will now check all the advise given to make sure I have the problem cured, thanks again .
UeeeI I haven't a spare blade at the moment If I do brake one,I nip to the saw doc and get one.
JekyII and Hyde I never checked that ,but will do.
Rodm Yes the tention screw is ok .
Dave I have just nipped out to the shed and there is no adjustment screw. there is 4 screws holding the slide piece sno other bolts that I can see for the top wheel .I think I will take it back and ask for a refund.
Kryn nothing like that at all.
