I think Pipeclay is correct here, the CCMT insert is designed with a 7deg relief angle and a positive tip. Turning it over may not be a good idea, and I don't think the fixing hole in the insert is chamfered on both sides.

In regards to your CCMT inserts I dont have a great deal of knowledge as to there ability to be used as you described.
I was under the impression that they were a positive rake insert ( I thought this meant they could only be used on 1 side only.)
As I mentioned earlier you can Slide and Surface with the 1 tool and the 1 tip but if the cutting edge was dulled by Sliding you would probably have limited use Surfacing and vica versa.
Can you either explain or show a picture of your tool holder or set up that allows the CCMT tip to be turned over and used.
As it stands at present I have only been using 1 side,if in fact they can be turned over and used that would be a bonus.

Im not sure if we're talking about the same thing. The set I have has a turning and a facing tool that each use one of the unused corners (SCBCR & SCKCR). Effectively that gives you 8 edges to use.
