Hi Gazza,
Demco were (are) Sydney based machinery importers and dealers, they generally sold good stuff, so I'd be interested to see some detail of what you got. Pictures if you can.
Try to get it under cover if you can, I've no idea what sort of gear you have in the workshop, but, my guess is that just about anything you have in there will be better outside under a tarp than the lathe..

PS... Is it an EMCO? If so that's a good quality Austrian made lathe.

Anyone with even 1/10 of a brain would have seen it already. I'm not interested in buying machinery ATM but I still browse the usual suspects to see what comes up.
If you want to buy something off of Gumtree or a BIN deal on Ebay then there's only one way to do it.
DO IT FIRST and *then* talk about it.
In this case I'd go take a look, with cash. If it looks half decent, buy it. It's certainly capable of doing what you say you need provided it's not terminally broken.
