Default Is this a metal work tool?

This appears to be some sort of heavy duty punch that I think is intended to be held in a metal working press.
It looks too over engineered to be intended for leatherwork or setting clothing studs.

    Any ideas?

    Fuzzie,

I believe it was used for riveting car brake linings. Brass rivets were used.
The device was usually held in a vice.

    Cheers,

    Findlay

    Thanks Findlay.
Now what to do with it! I guess not much use these days since everything has gone disc.

A brake lining riveter it certainly is. We use them regularly as nearly all light aircraft use riveted brake linings still. I've not seen a die pattern like that before, which looks like it would produce a flared star pattern. If you want something to do with it... buy an aeroplane!

Could possibly make other dies for it for stamping parts?

Hi Fuzzie, If you don't have a use for it, I have a friend that restores cars that would possibly buy it from you.

    Hi Kryn,

Glad for it to go to somebody who could use it. It weighs 1.4kg so postage would probably be cheapest in a 3kg satchel plus a couple of $s for me would be a ballpark figure.

    Cheers, Franklin
