    Default Metalworking instructional videos?

I am about to get my metalworking machines going, and have been weighing up instruction options. There is a nearby TAFE offering night classes, but I have a few scheduling conflicts, which leads me to ask about instructional videos.

Has anyone here got any recommendations for or against any video instruction tapes? I am specifically wondering about this one which is very expensive, but then again so are TAFE courses these days. Comments?

    Gday Greg
Expensive is in the eye of the beholder. As you are aware ,I am a Man Arts teacher and and ex Tafe instructor. In those capacities, I have seen a quite a few instructional videos.

The local made ones are produced to satisfy the local Tafe and High school vet requirements and a
    refocused on single outcome units.

Translated in to normalspeak it simply means that to get some of the veggies who have a 11 minute attention span to watch and keep awake, the presentations are kept short and simple.

Most are created by directors and producers who only have a second hand experience of what they are presenting.

I have had a great experience of working with one of the industry pros in making one of these instructional presentations.

The idea of showing the student holistic ways of learning...ie listen to what the machine is telling you...heaps better, even the interested cherubs have success with that.

Visual and audible signals are remembered much much better than seeing some boofhead in a dustcoat ,white shirt and tie, going on about the subject he personally knows bugger all about and then having text dot points inserted over the visual. No friggin wonder the kids go to sleep.

I teach in the workshop using visual and audible prompts as much as possible, as the formal theory leaves them unmotivated.

Your Dvds may seem expensive but several years back Tafe libraries were paying three and four hundred dollars for single unit presentations. These days it has not improved much.
For the number of topics covered and how they are covered I believe you are getting great value. being a mature motivated student this type of video should suit you very well. Maybe you rent it to the mob here, when you have learnt all the secrets?

Just my humble opinion of course.

If anyone else is interested drop me a pm...I am thinking about the lathe course; I won't have a mill for a year or so, and want to avoid tripping over the customs limit on parcel value. I'm still a few weeks away from doing anything, but I am very keen to hear expressions of interest ).

If the lathe course gets top marks then getting the rest of them will be a no-brainer, even before I get a mill.

He stated that you could be a skilled turner in 12 hours. Dam to think I did a 4 year apprenticeship when I could have been a skilled machinist in 6 weeks doing it part time. Gee I must have been naive. To think I was on appentice rates for all that time when I should have been on the skilled rate like my peers.

Maybe I can get some of that money back by selling my skills for $25+ph?

    Anyone interested?
