    Default Micrometer Stand

    Hi,

Thought I'd post these photo's of a micrometer stand I made up at work.

I bought some 25 - 50mm Digimatic Mitutoyo Micrometers which I found hard to hold. I looked at buying a holding from O/S but was pretty expensive for the amount of use that might get.

So I made my own - inspiration and plans came from Model Engineers Workshop NO 181 Oct 2011 (bought a 3 back issue pack from newsagent).

Used two pieces of aircraft aluminium billet for base and micrometer clamp and bright round bar of 12mm Diam and 8mm Diam for the shafts.

Out of the workshop until Monday but will make up some brass Screws then.

I also changed some of the dimensions around to suit the material on hand.

    Cheers Ben.

    Thank you Ben!

I've just broken out the three wire thread measuring kit from the flat rate box, and realised that I need a mic stand design right now.

    Cheers,
    Bill

    Default Three Wire Thread Measuring

    Ewan
My wires from CDCO are due to arrive soon, thanks again for your help.
I thought it worth mentioning, a method I used a little while ago.
Needed to screwcut a thread plug gauge to use for an internal gauge for a chuck backplate I was making on my Hercus 260 lathe. It entailed internal screwcutting.
At the time I did not have the Designer 3 wires & used the closest 3 number drills I had on hand.
Drilled 3 holes in a small block of wood to hold the "Measuring Drills" in position.'
Then I could use a Micrometer to check thread depth over the Drills as the job proceeded.
All went well. Have heard, that Plasticene or Wax can also be used to hold the "Wires"
Otherwise its a bit of a balancing act, with not enough hands.
    regards
    Bruce
