There is another aspect to "is it worth it". That is will you use it? If you spend $10 on something that would expect to sell for $50 but it sits on a shelf for the rest of your life, was that a wise buy?

If you have a use for it then it sounds like a good buy. If you never use it it may not be, unless you resale it for a profit.

That is correct... My micrometers sit on the drawer 90% of the time.. They are invaluable when I do use them and even then I generally only use 3... 0-25, 25-50 and rarely 50-75.. I have used my 75-100 but I could not say when...

My digital calipers get used most of the time.

the price is good, no doubt about it but, if you can get your hands on a gage block set and test the micrometers for accuracy. if your mates a boilermaker theres a chance he's used them as G-clamps, boilermaker myself ive seen it happen. if they measure up and don't need calibrating your on a winner.

Having the faces of the anvils parallel is more important than the zero setting.
Even if the "zero" is "out" they are easy to adjust. The backlash in the nut is adjustable as is the "zero" setting. I doubt very much that the thread would be stretched thus making them inconsistant over the range.
If you don't buy them, auction off your mates contact details here.

well i declined them. why you may ask i had a good look at them the ratchet was broken off the 25-50mm and the 100-125mm micro meter and only 2 were mitutoyo the rest were Chinese. so i ended up buying a new 0-100 mm chinese micrometer set for $90.

It's good that you notice the defect before buying them.

However, 2 mitutiyo + 4 Chinese and he said there were in the original box?? Does that means he try to cheating on you?

Like my Mitutoyo 8"-48" inside stick micrometer , Ive only ever used the 10"-11" part once to measrue a brake drums ,the rest of it still has the protective dip on it .
