Hi Eskimo,
Nice choice, and congratulations on getting finance ministry approval... at least you didn't have to hide it this time around..
Which makes me wonder.... what did you do with the HM52?
Not sure Dave, but I think that one is as big as you can go in 240V single phase?
Regards
Ray

Thanks Eskimo, have you played with it yet?
I was just wondering about it as the size as it's not much bigger than your old one, but has a few extra features on it. Was there something wrong with the old one?
Hi Ray,
I don't think that would stop him as he is into electrics and would convert it.

not sure I have...she is now talking about replacing her beemer with new...
Sold the clone to a guy in whyalla..he picked it up at the same time as mine arrived saving him a lot of effort as I had a crane there
Its a 3phase...I got that as it was the cheaper of the two.
I have 3 phase on so its no drama for me.
The next size up was some 1500kg and I reckon it would have been too big for what I will err intend doing anyway

No hav'nt played with it as yet...hopefully this weekend.... if we aint looking at cars
No nothing wrong with that hm52 clone.....got used to it in the end....just thought that as I have the $$$ might get something better while I can..if I dont do it now i might not ever get another chance
oh and initial comparisons so far, one can see and feel the difference between the 2 ... I believe I have made the right decision

Sounds like you should have spent more on the mill!!! Quick, theres still time. Off to the shop for some covert tooling purchases.
New mill, new tooling........ hmmmmm.

I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.
From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

Nice purchase Eskimo!
I see you work on the same principle as I do........
Easier to ask to forgiveness than it is to ask for permission!
Anyway, good on you, live is for living even if it does cost you a new beema!
I can't wait to see some major projects coming out of your shed in the next few months.

The old was same spindle taper Jatt ...to save on tooling
Thanks Simonl
does any one have first hand experience with quill digital readouts
I see you can get the Mitutoyo 5" from the states for $300 + freight. Do these bolt straight on?...without any machining etc?
I also see Shars has one for 1/3 the price. Again does it both straight on???

I am currently using a digital vernier caliper (6") as my quill digital readout but I am thinking about changing it to one of these
DRO Digital Readout Display With 600mm 24" Scale KIT Free Postage | eBay
I already have 2 of these for my X and Y axis and they work very well indeed.
They are easily cut to the length you want.
