You have my ears pricked up at the macson lathe bed comment Mark. When you say the planner bed is 9 foot, is that the travel as well or is the travel a but less? I may have a job for you.....if you want it.
Can't wait to see some pics of it and the mill.1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

Sorry Phil.
Ueee, the planer bed is 9ft from one end of the T slotted section of the bed to the other so I presume max travel would be around that, but the 6 ft Macson lathe ways is the biggest job that I know it has done. Since then it has been moved to a new shed and is awaiting re levelling and bolting down but once that is done (?early next year) It will be right to go. I have a friend nearby who also has a planer a little bit smaller ?5-6ft travel and it is operational. What did you have in mind?

Hi Mark,
I have a gorgeous young blond who's bed is pretty worn. The cost of a bed grind is crazy and the work involved in accurately hand scraping an 8' bed is scarey. My time frame is pretty open, i would like to have her going again for her 100th birthday in 2015.....
Here is the link to some pics (pic heavy) https://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/17...ml#post1453657
The saddle ways are 2070mm and the head and tailstock ways are 2450mm long.1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

Where do all these planers come from? I guess you have to be in the right place at the right time to get ahold of one...

Looks like I better get her up and running. I'll get the tape measure out and make sure but at 8 1/2 ft that may be doable.
(I knew I should have brought that 12 foot straight edge that was on Grays earlier this year.)
It will take some planning but would be a great project.
I was going to run a thread on this planer soon so this would be a perfect reason to get organised.
Will keep in touch. Have to get through Harvest first then off to Austria till late Jan but after that we should start to plan.
RC Planers are not common but they still exist. Mine came from a retired engineer who had the best backyard workshop I have ever seen. He built a large steam engine from scratch to put in a river boat. The other one came from a rural museum that closed down. These sort of things turn up when you least expect it. If one turns up down this way would be happy to help pick up/store and put on transport for you

I would appreciate any help with her, i am in no rush and certainly don't expect you to arrange things around me. Of course I will be happy to pay for your time, power etc if/when the time comes.
As for planning, now what is it that RC says? I am still yet to map the ways to see just how much wear there is, actually i still need to get the head and countershaft off! The shaper sort of overshadowed my progression with her......All hail the Queen....1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

No worries Ueee, Have remeasured the planer and it should cope with your lathes dimensions OK. I think we should aim for ?around middle next year some time which is my quieter time. You can continue the dismantle and assess the amount of wear so we can consider the amount that may need to remove and how this may affect saddle to leadscrew distance etc. I have not been able to view your photos for some reason but a picture of the way profile and dimensions will help with tool design. Payment is not neceesary and it will be a very interesting couple days.
Thanks Mark

Hi Mark,
You may need to edit your settings, the standard is set so you cannot see embedded images.
Click on settings in the top right of screen,
Click on General settings on the left side of the screen,
About half way down is a setting "Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)" make sure it is checked.
If it already is PM me your email and i'll send you a few pics.
Good luck with harvest, i hope it doesn't rain!
You wouldn't know a Neil and Larnie Climpson out that way would you?1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.
