    Default Milling machine instruction required

A friend of mine has just purchased a new milling machine from Asset machinery and is in need of some hands on basic instruction.

The mill is a Steel Master SM-MGH 50 CW and came with a variety of tooling, eg, ER 32 collet chuck and collets, drill chuck arbor, and other arbors that I'm not sure about.

Arbors can go into the mill horizontally of vertically. Some of the tooling consists of long shafts with a series of spacers along them, and a nut???

Is there a kind member prepared to spend some time in Yarrambat, just 10 minutes north of Diamond Creek, to show my mate how to use the mill?

The mill will be used almost exclusively on aluminium to make prototype boat fittings and accessories.

PS, how do you lock up the spindle to tighten the drawbar etc, the instruction book is hopeless?

    Hi Ken,

I suspect it might be like the HM52 which doesn't have a spindle lock, and you need a custom spanner to hold it.

For basic instruction try the MIT videos MIT TechTV – Machine Shop 4

Thats the horizontal arbor, one end goes in the hoz spindle. the other end goes in the the hoz arbor support, which is on the other end of the ram(you have to spin it 180 degreees).

    Default Thanks Stu

Thanks Stu, finally figured that out after Googling the Asset site, although it doesn't show using the horizontal arbor, it does show a picture and describes that the head can be rotated. Just 1 & 2 together.
