Hi Bryan,
Yes it is a bit of a mess. It even had me scratching my head when I was looking at it after your post lol
I did some of the math off the page. 5.5384 deg per div= 5deg+32.3077minutes.
So for anyone trying to work out what on earth I've done!
A= full degs(5 x division number if you like)
B =minutes(division number x 32.3077)
C=full degs in B
D=decimal degs in B
E=remainder of decimal degs minus full degs
F= Full Degs Total A+C
G=E converted to MINUTES
(I didnt bother with seconds)
TRUNC would have be easier
Thanks for that now I just have to find somewhere to put it that I can find it next time I need it.

Stuart, you've lost me. Why do you need to divide an M4 screw in to 65 parts? I have a piece of technology called a dividing head that I use to do that sort of thing.

Hi Michael,
It was for dividing the straight knurl on the thumb screw(see post 71 for pics). I have a dividing head but no plates so needed to work out the degs and minutes to divide it manually.
Hi Clubman7,
I must say I didnt even think about looking for spares, though I have since heard some horror stories about the price of them........ Still I didnt ask so I dont know.

Jeez Stu...I just read most of this. Have you not collected the optical comparator yet? It would have revealed more than you ever wanted to know about your thread pitch, and angle, too.

Stu,
I contacted MTI regarding the clamp that enables the fitting of a protractor to my boy's version height gauge. Similar to the scribe clamp. About 23 bucks in the States and 42 here plus delivery. I haven't bought it. I might come up with a DIY version.
Have you checked out the scribe on yours? Does it align with zero when it's bottomed out? I'm asking because it doesn't look like the one in my catalogue illustrations.

It is my experience that it does pay to ask the question. Mostly related to car parts etc but on occasions I have priced something from a dealer after trying to locate an alternative and been quoted a price that does not make it worth going anywhere else. Can happen the other way too tho. Priced tiny matchhead sized globes from Ford for a switch light.$4.99. Same globe used in Hylux 4WD so went to Toyota for a price. Nearer $9.00. Oh what a feeling!
