    Default Morse Taper Slipping

I have a 3/4" drill bit that is MT2 and it slips (spins) sometimes in the MT2 taper in the tailstock of my 9" hercus, it is only this particular drill that does it, would anyone have a fix or remedy for it. The RPM of the headstock is the second slowest with the back gear engaged. The material being drilled is mild steel.

I'd try bluing up either the taper or the socket and see what the contact area is like. It may be that there is some slight damage that is preventing good seating.

Put a lathe drive dog on the drill shank, let it rest against the cross slide or tool post,it wont slip in the tailstock.

You could put it in a split tube and turn it, if it is damaged. Read it in a Model Engineers Workshop recently. He had a drill bit with a No3 morse and a broken tang, and turned it down to a No2 with no tang.
