Stain identification/removal and desire to achieve a brushed finish
Hi, I have a metal base for a piece of furniture and it has these "stains" on it. I've tried soaking into a basic solution consisting of water/vinegar/baking soda and lightly sanding with scotch brite (i.e., "steel" wool). I'm ultimately going for a matte brushed finish on this metal part (recognizing that the base is not mirror polished yet the stem is for some reason).
Any advice on what these stains are and how to remove them might be is helpful. I suspect once I start brushing (sanding with coarse grit then fine grit to achieve the desired finish) these stains will likely go away but I'm not just not sure whether it's an issue at the surface of the metal or something else.
(The part is made of aluminum)
