Motor rewinding dilemma
I may acquire a 15kW 2 pole motor in the near future which would be perfect for the RPC I plan build..... yes it is a big RPC but nothing succeeds like excess. I will be stepping down from 480v 'two phase' and was planning to use a Eurotech controller. Three years ago Spaznet wanted $25k for a three phase connection .... building an RPC is an attractive option...
The motor still spins and runs, but may have suffered some damage as it has been replaced because it was involved in a fire. It has been tested and there is a suspicion that some of the enamel on the windings has been damaged. Of course I want reliability.... so the question is, should I get this motor for sweet effay, would it be cheaper to get it rewound or buy a new motor?
I suspect a new motor of this size would be around $2.5k, and I am assuming the damaged motor would need a full rewind to bring it up to scratch.

Usually when I have a motor of uncertain state I take it to the rewinders and ask them to assess it. They can probably revarnish without having to rewind (I think it is a dip process). Provided that the windings are mechanically sound I can't see a reason that they couldn't revarnish it and give it a new lease of life.
