need to move a mill, SOR, Perth, WA
Can anyone recommend a hiab and truck to transport a mill.
Needs to go from Banjup to Ferndale.
My guess is around a tonne in weight.
I hit the buy it now button on ebay.
thanks,

That should keep you quiet for a few months. Well done.

Ooowa, the enticing, dreaded, hopefully not to painful, "buy it now button",,,,,,,, ;What have I done?
The (sweet?) smell of PROJECT in the air
Seriously though, hope it turns out for you to be mostly there and the important parts are in reasonable shape.
Cheers

Is that a swivelling table? Bit hard to tell looking sideways. RC has its bastard cousin I think. Have fun and keep us posted.

re the crane truck. If its possible, get one with the crane mounted at the rear of the tray. They are better at being able to place the load where you want it. ie can reverse in and pick up or unload over the rear of the tray.

Looks like a nice solid mill. Let us know what it's like when you get it.

Hi, nice score!
I saw that one on eBay too but a tad too far away for me.
Looks like an interesting project.
Looking forward to hearing about it and seeing how you go with the reco. The first step towards knowledge is to know that we are ignorant.

Its home now. $160 for a crane truck. Brand new crane; wireless control and it even weighed it for me. A bit over 1.2 tonne.
doesn't appear to be too bad.
haven't spotted any broken teeth. both sets of backgears move freely.
Z, Y appear to move
Yaw and X seem to be stuck, I suspect it has something to do with the lever on the front of the table. I think it transfers drive from X to Yaw. So I guess I will pull the table apart at some stage.
Came with a drum of stuff.
Casting that covers the table drive chain is broken and missing a piece, can you MIG cast alloy?
On the "do not touch" list at the moment as I have a kitchen and an Oka to finish first.
Actually I probably will sneak some time in to pull it apart and start cleaning it up.
Will start a new thread when I do, and link to it from here.
Feeling a bit happier about hitting that 'buy it now' button. Although it does take up a lot of room in the garage.

Hi Frank,
Nice solid machine, I can see potential there. It's always good when you move a machine without problems.
Don't try mig welding cast... not a good idea...
It can be done, but it's a pretty specialized job, this guy has it spot on.. Cast Iron Welding
Regards
Ray

Good to hear it's home safely, and good to hear everything is fine with it.
You still have plenty of room, it's when you only have walking trails like me when you have to start to worry,LOL and thats when it's clean.
I like your double decker grinder polisher, good thinking. I need something like that myself.
That crane would be nice, but you probably wouldn't get much change out of $60,000 (if not more) buy the sounds of it.

Hi Ray, it's cast alloy. It might weld OK with mig, I know I have done some in the past, but it will depend on what it actually is made of. You could always try on a small piece to see. You will need Argon and aluminium wire though, and don't forget to clean it properly with a unused stainless steel wire brush.
