Default Have to move (sell) some gear, appreciate honest advice.

    Hi all.

Iam a very infrequent poster here. But generally enjoy the read. Iam seeking a bit of advise. I have a lot of gear and it's time to reduce it some. I want to get reasonable value for what I have and minimal mucking around? Is it worth posting it here first? Iam versed in eBay but have never sold machinery or tooling there. Some things I have I can sort of understand listing on fleabay . But other things like bundles of small pieces of high speed tool steel already used and silver steel rod, odd shaped blocks of tool steel would seem a lot harder to offer. but then to let it go for scrap rates would be criminal IMO.

Why not place it in the Market place/auctions section, where it would do the most good for the members on here. Just list it with the price you would like for it or have it in an auction where members can bid on it. If you can load photos of the items, so much the better, as members can see what they buy/bid on.

I generally work on the theory that if it's decent gear that I want to go to a good home, I list here first. If that does not work then I throw myself on the mercy of ebay. Most people here seem to prefer a fixed price though so you would have to have a reasonable idea of price to do that. If you are not so sure then ebay gets to a price by concensus although the buyers usually think it is too low.

    Hi there,

As Michael says, sort your stuff out with an asking price and throw it on this forum with a pic. Nothing to loose.

Cheers and good luck. You have my interest already!

Thanks all. I will do as suggested. It'll take me a little while to get some photos and myself organized.

Hi all I am finally organising myself to shift some gear. I will put it in the market place but as before some of the pricing I am not sure of so I will put a caveat asking for offers rather than abuse if I am too dear because some things I am unsure of now. Like brand new Clarkson autolock chucks in small and large, this stuff used to be stupid money but from what I can gather not anymore? But I'd still want to get fair money.

So for for know it will be the Clarkson stuff, Meca dividing head and a raduis turning attachment.

edit sorry but the buy and sell here seems a bit complicated and it didn't want to play with my iPad when creating a post???

unless the mods have a problem I will place in fleabay and put a link here? Any forum members will get extra consideration on the stuff.

The marketplace section sucks IMO, I rarely look at it.

As for pricing, last Thursday I was offered my choice of 40 taper ER32 collet chucks for $50 each. There's an eBay sale running where there's a pile of 40 taper tooling, $30 each.

I have 2 Clarkson autolock chucks in 40 taper, I wouldn't pay $20 for another one, in fact I probably wouldn't have one for free seeing as I never use the ones I have. Yes, they are a lot more secure in holding end mills etc where there's a significant chance they'll move in the cut, but the flexibility of ER collets really makes this marginal for most operations. I bought a set of metric ER32 collets for $62. All the ones I've used so far have quite acceptable holding & runout.

So - depends on what you consider fair money, I guess. Basically, they're obsolete and bulky. The reason 40 taper ER32 collet chucks are so cheap is, CNC machines often have 20+ of them stacked in the tool changer. They wouldn't be doing that if they weren't up to the job.

Yes achjimmy, the Admins/Mods do have a problem with that, the only place this forum allows links to for sale items external to the forum is in the special Metalwork sub-forum, please read the conditions at the top of the sub-forum:

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f282

or the Ebay/Gumtree etc sub-forum in the Market Place:
