Default Multitool Portagrind- who has one?

I been cleaning out my shed cupboards and found a tool I had purchased and put aside and forgot about.
Its a Multitool Portagrind , which is the angle grinder version of the Mutitool linisher belt sander.
Has anyone had or still have, a Portagrind attached to an angle grinder body?

I am chasing forumites experiences with the Portagrind.I don't see them about and its reasonable to surmise they may not have been the success that the multitool was. Was it a worthwhile tool ? Are spare belts still available? What sort of use do you have for it for?

I am left wondering it it worth buying a another grinder as I keep my grinders each dedicated to the single application. A 1" portable belt sander is not an application which desperately need at this time and money is a bit tight at the moment.

I would hate to set it up and find its a dud.Feedback would be handy.

    Thanks
    Grahame

I don't have one but I have used a mates and it is definitely useful for getting into nooks and crannies that something like a flap sander can't get to or that cannot be placed onto a Multitool linisher.
e.g. getting rid of the burrs inside large .RH and SH tubing.

On the other hand I reckon the speed of a standard angle grinder is a touch on the fast side for sanding so setting it up on a variable speed would be a useful option.

Great for quick pre-welding touch-ups, sharpening lawn mower blades and 'I'm feeling too stuffed to worry about the angle grinder catching an edge so I'll just use this' moments.

Also: "Five minutes with a file, or 30 seconds with this?" (I have it with its own dedicated angle grinder too)

I picked up a stack of belts when a hardware store closed down, but from memory I think they are the same length as some of the belt sander belts, so you can always cut a belt into 25mm strips.

We use to use them when I worked for a handrail manufacturer to polish the welds out of the stainless,
I'd kill to get my hands on one for myself at home. But they see to be made of unobtanium

    G'day guy's,
I have had one for a good 20 years, love it, much more control than an angle grinder. Just buy 100mm wide belts and split them.
    Cheers

I don't have the multitool, but I do have a Black and Decker Power File. It runs a 1/2" wide belt and is fantastic for cleaning up welds, inside tubes (it goes inside 1" tubing) cleaning off galv for welding in tight spots etc. $140 on fleabuy. Different models available apparently on Google
    Hope this helps.

I have the Makita version, the 9032. I first got one because the Al welders at the place I worked at the time swore by them for Al weld prep but it gets used for lots more than that. It has variable speed built in and is great. I'd take a dedicated tool like this over an angle grinder add-on - smaller, lighter, guarding is better.

I do have one of those pneumatic files that take a 10mm belt and it is great for small stuff,
But I would love something on a much larger scale......
I will look into those electric power files though...

The 9032 takes belts that are 6, 9 or 12mm in width.
If you want bigger, you need a 9031 (30mm belt)

    Default Portagrind

I had one of them, in my opinion, bloody useless. Shelved it in the shed, did a clean out last year and it went in the bin. Spent more time trying to keep the belt on when sanding then actually sanding with it. Bought it to sand back my lintels prior to rust proofing. Like I said, useless piece of poo.

I've talking to multitool australia and although the portagrind is discontinued they are looking to re-release it. They are looking at releasing it already mounted on a grinder, in both pneumatic and electric versions
