I’ve got a couple of bits of steel bar here - approx 30mm square and 300 long.
They appear to be hand forged, and one has a basic chisel shape on one end that looks as though half of it has broken off.

I was expecting them to be just a normal carbon steel, but when I put them on the linisher there’s virtually no spark - just some faint red ones and no furry bits at the ends.

They’re not quite file hard, but if you tap a corner with a lump hammer it marks the face of the hammer.

They came from an old engineering workshop - potentially from as far back as the 60’s.

The only identifying mark is this stamped “C” on one of them.
Nothing in the chisel shaped one.

Any thoughts?

Steve
