Thread: National Swap meet mart Bendigo

Unfortunately, mine (on the right in the photo) has and entirely hand-written scale - in imperial units - on it. I suspect that's because they were only available in metric at the time.
A good one would look like the one on the left in the photo - although this is a newer type. The scales are nothing like the Supramess, but I could have a go a drawing a digital one myself with the divisons required. In fact, I might "make" an imperial one with a +/- 0.030" range out of it. A kind of 'unique' one....

Bendigo Swap
Hello Ken,
Agree with you, not a lot of machine tools there except for the guy at the front of the building at the main entrance and I think in 6 hours I walked every outdoor aisle after checking my map.
Did find another site with some and he had a "Lock" cut off tool holder that appeared to be the same size as my other three Lock tool holders. Was tempted but thought I will have a look around and come back later- bad decision.
Didn't find much old Ford Sidevalve/Flathead V8 stuff either which was my main search. Seems forties and fifties cars are ancient history to most of today's car enthusiasts.

One thing I noticed this year was the empty spaces and some of the vendors that were inside previously were outside this year. From my discutions with some vendors it was due to cost of sitesI may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Nothing really to do with the swap meet, but it prompted this action
Follwing my relative success with the cheaply acquired Mahr Supramess Comparator at the swap meet, I had a go at improving on the hand-drawn imperial dial face of my old Mahr Dezimess as well.
With the help of Josh G, I was able to 'photoshop' an original looking imperial dial face - which never existed from the Mahr factory as far as I can find out.
Here are a couple of before and after shots:

swap meet
Hi
The Trafalgar swap meet held today was a washout with around 1/3rd of the usual sellers turning up .
Didn't see any machining items at all , but I did see lots of junk that should have been taken to the tip
I bought a couple of cast iron gas burner rings that may be handy for heating things, and a 240V water heating element , the type you hang on the edge of a drum of water or similar. Mike
