    Default National Swap meet mart Bendigo

    Anyone else attend the swap meet at Bendigo this weekend?

    In my opinion all I saw was rusty old junk except for one bloke, set up in front of the first main shed. He had a lot of good engineering stuff ranging from rotary tables, lathe chucks, broaches, machine vices etc. He also knew his prices, no bargains.

    I reckon the Bendigo showgrounds is too big, it would take a week to get around to all the stalls, I only had half an afternoon being tied to a train schedule.

    Just love the VLocity train, it really rips along where it can.

    I attended, bought a P&N tap wrench off that fellow you mentioned, remember him from last year too where he had some nice things. Also bought a couple of Stewart T-handle type tap wrenches off another fellow. Was hoping to find the elusive cheap hand-powered metal shaping machine but alas, I did not. Thought there'd be more engineering type stalls, I think there were a couple more last year, so a little disappointing in that regard. Worth going, I enjoyed the hunt.

    Default The Swap.

    Hi Ken,
    Yes I went. Met up with Gra & his Father, at 10.30am. as arranged.
    I got there at 6.45am. & walked till 5.45pm. with 3 breaks lasting about 1hr. Yes it was a loooooonnnnngggg Walk. Meant to wear my WWF ID Card, but forget.
    Bought a few pieces, but the dearest part was the food, or I thought it was anyway, + $10 to get in.

    Bought 2 Addis Carving Chisels & a Brades bench Chisel, $10 the lot.
    A very nice Leather Belt for $5.
    2 P&N No.9 Thread Chasers, $4.
    A Keyless Chuck $4.
    Last but not least 1 Tuning Fork $1. best buy of the day.
    I collect them, but only have approx. 19. So you start to think, all the Teachers in my day had them, so where have they all gone.

    Had a Great Day, so hoping to go next year.

    I went today but only a very short time to spend there. Most stall holders were packing up by about 12:30....
    Bought a few taps and dies, a large slitting saw and a MAHR SUPRAMESS for $10!
    When I go home, I cleaned it up, checked the insides for spiders and the rear of the dial for the original face - alas no luck there. Gave it a little bath with white spirits and put it back together.
    Works very smoothly. One day I might find an original dial face - and maybe a new (or better) crystal - this one has a crack in it. I had a look on the net and apparently the newer Mahr crystals don;t fit and this (old type with metal spring retainer on inside) is no longer available....

    I have only missed 3 or 4 Bendigo Swap meets. I arrived on Thursday night and came home Monday...

    Didnt get much, it was good to meet Isatree again

    Got a couple of HSS turning chisels for $25
    and some odds and sods, nothing of great interest. Really only a social weekend for me, lots of talking and drinking of beer realy
    I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

    Thanks to Michael, my Supramess has a New dial face.

    The limiting factor at this scale is the printer: 600 dpi is actually quite visible on an instrument you stare at intensely....

    Speak to your local "PROFESSIONAL" photography print lab, not a camera store but a proper place that specialises in printing for the industry. Still wouldn't cost more than a few dollars if they charge you. If your lucky that will print it off the edge of another job.

    Thanks DSEL. That's a good idea which I will pursue.

    Anyone got an imperial Mahr Dezimess they would be prepared to open and scan/photograph (hi res) the dial face of? *(after a little more research I realise that there may be no such thing as an imperial Dezimess...)

    I had a good look at the crystal of these comparators, and making a new one would not be that difficult. They are quite thin and simply have a small depression in the covered centre to clear the central bearing boss and the hand boss. I think that should be doable with a little mold and heat and acrylic/plexiglass sheet.

    If you had the imperial one to scale (1:1) hi res and just needed the numbers changed, ie the scale is kept the same it is easy enough to edit the image. Although the numbers would probably not be round numbers.
