    Default Nutsert Gun

    Hei Guys,
Just discovered these things and they look pretty useful.
Any idea where I can get the applicator gun and what I would pay for it - just a hand powered one would probably suit my limited use.

Am I calling it the right name - the thing I am referring to runs an insert in to sheet metat so you can use a thread instead of a self-tapper.
    Cheers
    Paul

Saw them on the blackwoods website, but no prices.
Local fastener shop will hire me one for $20, atm I have a one off job but it looks like something I'd find use for.

Blackwoods cat no 00317214. My work price is around $85. Not sure what sort of discount we get (Gov) but I think an over the counter price would be at least $120.
Whilst on Blackwoods. They (Blackwoods) no longer give company discounts on cash, counter sales without an official company order. Apparently a few people were buying stuff at company discounts and then having a garage sale and selling the stuff on at a profit.

Hi all, have been looking in on this site occasionally........

Think what you are referring to are called " Riv-nuts" around here. Harbor Freight in the U.S. has them, but they do not ship out of the country. They are # ITEM 1210-6VGA @$16.99 if the link does not work. The good news is you can install them without their installation tool. Take a screw that fits and tighten a nut down against the insert to pull up the bottom and squeeze/lock in place.

The link by lilredex reports an error on the item number. Enter [rivnut] at "Find by Keyword" to enable.

Try Google [rivnut australia] for more useful information.

    Default Nutserts

    Hello Smidsy,
The nutsert kit is available from Farnell (Avdel brand) but it is not cheap, about $220.00 (2006 price).
I have used a similar nut called "clinch nut". They are also available from Farnell. You dont need a special tool to install them. You just drill the correct size hole and press them in with the drill press (if you dont have an arbor press).
You could even just drive them in with a hammer and a piece of rod with a flat square end. Look up WWW.npfasteners.com for a good description.

    Regards,
    Russell

    Hei Guys,
I can get one from the US for $20 plus freight, but I need it faster than what I could get it so I shall probably pay the $20 and hire a set for this job.

Interstingly enough, I found this link on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Rivnut-Rivetn...dZp1638Q2em122

At the moment I have access to a mill at uni and I reckon this could be quite easy to replicate so when I get the official projects out the way I think I could up for some mill time.
    Cheers

I got mine from my local fastener place that carries the nutserts. About $80 IIRC.

Smidsy, if what you are fastening is mobile (fits in a car) and you only have a few (5-6) to do, and you buy the nut-serts from them then Searles fasteners in High Road will let you use their gun in their carpark for nicks. They also hire the tools as well.
