    Hi Eskimo,
Hmmm... I've repaired worse than that... it looks like a thin film of carbon that would probably scrub off with a pcb wash.

There was no mention of payment so I hope so.

I'm always of the view, that it's not what you do when things are going well that counts, it what you do when things go wrong.

Only concern I would have now, is if there is another fault (perhaps motor or wiring) that caused the control board failure. Keep your fingers crossed when you swap control boards over..

This is my worry, Not knowing what to look for that when I connect the new one some thing will blow again.

    Mark ,
You may have to bite the bullet and get a sparky to do some testing before you fire it up ,might be worth to shell out a few dollars just to be safe.
Like me and my motor , I finally gave up and got some one to look at it and saved myself the grief .
I knew a good sparky who lived in Tennant Creek but he moved to Darwin.
Not sure if Power Projects have a base there ,but they are usually pretty good, they do a lot of contract work for Power Water .

I finally got my metal lathe going again, Don't know if this was the problem or not but the circuit board has two terminals that are marked DC 1 and DC 2 and there is two wires marked DC 1 and DC 2.

    BUT

The DC 1 wire was connected to the DC 2 terminal and the DC 2 wire was connected to the DC 1 terminal

I am glad that I was patient enough to wait for a sparkie or I would have copied the way that Steelmaster lathe manufactured it.

Good to hear it worked out ok .
Having dramas here as well car electrical ones .I ran a cable to the back of my ute so I could run my Engle fridge when I go to Darwin etc. I used a piece of hard wire to feed the new cable through the main harness grommet in the fire wall , unfortunately I omitted to file down the little tag left from snipping of the wire after I wrapped and twisted it around the cable ,It picked up three wires from the main harness and broke them . Right up under the dash ,have removed a lot of stuff out of the way and will get the auto sparky around to repair the broken wires ,hope fully the chariot will live again.
