    Default Oil Pillows

Does any one know a local (Melbourne preferably) of a local supplier of tramp oil pillows?
Something like these: 31925 - Floating Tramp Oil Collection Pillow

I just spent a day cleaning my mill and it was apparent that I had plenty of oil in my coolant sump (and over the rest of the machine ( ).

    Regards, Christian

    Christian,

These are used in boats to absorb oil from water in the bilge, so you could try the local boat shop.
3M makes a floating pillow style of oil absorber seen in boating catalogues.

    Cheers,
    Bill

    Christian.

You could also try Global Spill control in Airport West. I see a bit of the stuff they produce, as they are on the back door of one of my customers. They are just off Mathews Ave, a few blocks south of the shopping centre.

Spill Kits Australia, Absorbents, Spill Containment, Dangerous Goods Storage

Envirosorb - Pillows & Bags - Oil & Fuel Absorbents - Spills on Land & Spill Kits - Products - Global Spill Control

Seems they have an online ordering / quotation thing.

    Regards Phil.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I ended up going to the local chandlery and picked up a 3M Marine oil and fuel sorbent pillow.
3M Products for DoD Applications - 3M US:#3M™ Marine Oil and Fuel Absorbent Bilge Pillow, 7 in. x 15 in., 16 pillows per case

For $11.50 I thought it was worth a try.

    Christian,
How has this worked for you? The verniers sump has a pretty decent oil layer on top of it, before i find a boat store i'd like your feedback on them.

    G'Day Ewan,

Yes it does some to have worked. There doesn't appear to be any "loose" oil that I can see floating in the sight glass of the tank. The coolant also seems pretty clean. I haven't removed the coolant tank and taken off the lid for a proper look though... that's a job only on do when I really have to.
