Optical Pyrometer
Its the other Bob's fault this time.
Picked this up today. Meant to be good from 750C to 2900C
Havent powered it up yet as it takes four D cells, which given its age I think is a good thing.
First thing I noticed was that the scale didnt seem to work right, while looking at the manaul I noticed the small adjustemt knob was on the left, mine is on the right. Then it dawned on me that someone a long time ago put it back together wrong. Took about an hour to careful lever off the front and the gasket was stuck to both faces. Now the scale seems to work right
Though it could have be a sign of someone "giving up on it"
The optics work and the filliment is still there(though its still anyones guess whether it still works or not)
It doesnt seem to be the best type for molten metals(there is another model with a different emissivity factor)
Anyone know that the fliud filled glass tubes are?
Would a 6VDC supply do the job?(I'm thinking not unless its a very stable 6V)
I'll scan the manual tomorrow if anyone cares.

Looks like a standard cell (very accurate voltage source)

The fluid filled glass thingo looks like some kind of switch - ie only works in one orientation.
It will be interesting to see what self calibration mechanism it uses.
If it has none it could be hundreds of degrees out.

There is also some other adjustment which I dont understand at all ATM.

Mines an 8622.
Don't blame me for most of the out of focus blurriness, thats how they came.

I find this modern idea of removing your jacket just because you enter the workshop/factory floor rather disappointing. It is not very seemly. Some men have even been known to roll up their sleeves. I ask you!
