    Yesterday while at the tip shop, I picked up the handpiece of a CIG comet 3, and a Murex 200 cutting torch for $20.

    The regulators look pretty beat up (cig regulators), and the hoses are stuffed as well, but I was wondering if its worth putting a kit together piece by piece?

    Does anyone know if its worth or possible to have the regulators and torches rebuilt? the regulators look pretty bad, well the guages on them would need to be replaced at the very least.
    The Comet 3 seems to be pretty popular, so i guess parts shouldn't be a major issue

    As they came from the tip, i'm a little cautious with their state, but the look ok condition. I expect the regulators to be a no go, they look pretty bad

    I would be probably using the torches with oxy LPG. Its more useful to have a bottle of lpg around then a bottle of acetylene, plus it means only one bottle rental (and maybe a bit safer too?)

    Hi,

    Your probably better off asking the same question in the welding section. With gas/welding its always hard to tell how good or bad something is.

    I'd find the cost of a new setup before I went too far. Sometimes it doesn't take long to spend the cost of a new system on replacement parts on old gear

    Your probably better off buying a complete second hand set up and use that one for spares.
    As has been said it will probably cost you more to get that one running.

    BOC IIRC offer a rebuild service , not sure if they still do , but I reckon it may be cheaper to buy new regulators .
    You can buy the parts to rebuild the handpieces ,and they are pretty easy to do.
