I'd put it to work and see what it can do before getting too carried away.

I would give it a go
I would give it a go but I have been known to be a bit impatient with some projects! As long as there aren't any high spots it should be OK. I am jealous, I would like to spend the time on the old Cincinatti I have in the shed and bring it up to scratch. Well done.

I'm the same. Give it a stone and run with it, revist if you have a problem or run out of other projects. The way I look at it is "how manay hours work has it done so far in its life? how many hours are you going to put on it in say the next ten years?". Now if you plan on making 1000's of little wiggets a month my answer would be different.

If you need any gears and such for the saddle, I have all the gears out of mine still here... The feed gearbox on mine was different to the one you have, along with the main casting...

Thanks for the offer RC at this stage all the gears seem in very good condition it even came with some extra gears for the power feed but havent worked out where they fit yet . the only part that may be useful at this stage is and extra arbor the one that came with it doesnt have a key way cut in it . bit it looks like a number 3 mt so shouldnt be too hard to make an extra one.
ive changed the motor for a more modern one to take advantage of using a vfd
the motor for the vertical attachment is in the motor winders getting converted to delta
its history is a bit vague but it appears it may have come from a tafe college many years ago went to a small garage then passed on the the last owner where it has sat unused for many years since his passing

I could be wrong but I get the impression that these older machines have such a large bearing area on their ways that a little galling will in many cases have little effect, as long as they high spots are taken off. BTW, those ways look better than on my "brand new" Chinese mill!
Nice machine!

bits left over
well the pallas is finally up and running with only a few minor problems
the knee jack has been at some time broken and re welded not a serious problem its just 50mm too short so ill put a spacer under the bottom to lift it.
The vise for some reason doesn't close right up maybe the screw thread has been shortened at some stage but i use a round bar for a spacer any way
and now
what are these for (first pic) left over in a box of things that came with it

Hi John,
One part in the first pic looks like the 'quadrant' arm that holds the gears for a dividing head when doing helical milling.

Spot on john. Try and locate the dividing head.
