This is an interesting thread. You certainly were in the right place at the right time....Well done.
From my recollection, that Parken unit is late 60's early 70's I think.
They always made very good quality machines. I see they are now in Clayton on their website, but for some reason I remember them being in Bairnsdale. Can anyone confirm if that is correct? Once again, my memory fails me!
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

    Hi Ruddy,

Thanks for the comments, I'm going to do a bit of research and see if the current Parken people know much about the company history. If I find out anything I'll post it here.

    Hi Com_VC,
Thanks for the link, it looks like they have a pretty comprehensive range of belts.

Stuart, I'll try and get a few different belt types, including the 3M trizact, and see which ones work best for the sort of stuff I'm planning on. There's a lot of interesting discussion on belts on the various knifemaking forums.

That's a handy co-oincidence that your machine takes the same size belts.

    Regards
    Ray

    Ray,
Am I right in saying they only make 2 trizact belts for 96" machines? in grits I don't understand. Your welcome to a couple of the belts I have, but I feel a little strange giving something away when the guy that sold me the machine said "don't buy these" lol. Although they did seem to do ok in the demo he gave me, He of course is talking about production.

    Hi Stuart

I thought he said don't buy the Deer? and that 3M trizact were good..

    Regards
    Ray

    PS
    Ray,
My machine is the same size, although not as pretty. The belts I have are 120 by Deer. The guy that sold it to me recommended not to touch Deer as he wasn't impressed with them. He used mostly 3M stuff and recommended some belts but the name has slipped my mind ATM. The belts he showed me had tiny pyramids instead of the normal grit.

    Hi Stuart

I think you are right, I can only see 2 and 3M grits are incomprehensible, what does
    A30 JE-weight Fullflex mean?

Edit: Ok I found a chart showing the conventional grit and the trizact grit, A30 is equivalent to 600 grit.
And the JE-weight Fullflex refers to the woven rayon cloth backing.

    PDF attached.

    Ray,
"Your welcome to a couple of the belts I have"(that would be the Deer belts, the ones the guy does not recommend. Given our usage they may be ok)

Wow 3M are normally pretty smart, why would they make a numbering system that goes backwards to every one else??????
