Parken Belt Linisher
Here are a few pictures of a Parken belt linisher, I picked up at a factory clearance yesterday.
It's 415 3 phase, so I'll get the motor converted to 240V delta from 415 star and fit a VFD.
I've been planning to build one of these for ages. Happened to be in the right place at the right time for once.
I've been looking for a good one of these fly presses for years as well... AP Lever is a bonus. Now to start making some dies...
Picked up the Rega oil can as well.
Just the icing on the cake, a 200lb saw doctors anvil, in nice condition too..
I'll save the Herless surface grinder for another day
I'd better go and tap some 4mm holes for Eskimo...
Regards
Ray

Hi Dave,
The surface grinder is 1850Kg not sure if that's including the hydraulics, anyway it's too heavy for the Ute, so, I'm in the process of trying to arrange transport, it's one of those things that I've always wanted. I'll post pictures when I get things organized.
They had a couple of big surface grinders, by big, I mean 40 ft long monsters, they will probably go to a specialist machine tool reseller, I guess, way out of my league i'm afraid.
Some of the other machines that were out of my range, a Herbert turret drill press, there was a nice Herless mill as well.

Hi Stuart,
Here are a couple of close-ups of the belt tracking adjustments. You slacken off that nut, and rotate the whole idler roller assembly.
You can do the same on the tensioning pulley end
I can't see any adjustment on the drive pulley end, but you can move the motor to angle it a bit, but still aligned with the other pulleys.
The belts are 50mm x 2440mm or 2" x 96" I got a box with some 60 grit belts, but am looking around for a selection of others to buy. What belts did you get to use with yours? Any recommendations.
The Saw Doctors anvil is used to flatten and tension saw blades, it's a skill I'd like to learn.

Hi Ray,
I will wait until you post it up to ask questions about the surface grinder, but are you organizing a cheap freight company, so we can all send our grinding jobs to you?

Forgot to add, the quality of that gear would look right at home in the factory you visited overseas with your son.

I love the shape of the pedestal base on the sander. They gave some thought to form in the olden days .How old do you reckon it is Ray, 50's maybe?

Hi Dave,
That workshop in Austria is somewhere I plan on going back to, since my son is now working over there there should be an opportunity to visit in the next year or so. Might bring back that Eichler Mill
Hi Bob,
It's hard to pick the age, but it looks like 50's or thereabouts. I see Parken Engineering is still in business, although their website is a bit patchy Parken Engineering
Their current belt linisher looks like this..
I know which one I like best, no prizes for guessing.

Ray,
My machine is the same size, although not as pretty. The belts I have are 120 by Deer. The guy that sold it to me recommended not to touch Deer as he wasn't impressed with them. He used mostly 3M stuff and recommended some belts but the name has slipped my mind ATM. The belts he showed me had tiny pyramids instead of the normal grit.

Hi Stuart,
Maybe he was referring to these?

Interested in going halves in a box?

Ray,
That certainly looks and sounds like them.
I'm interested in going halves but think they might be a little pricey. If you get a price let me know. 25 should last me a few years.
I do have a roll of 40 grit 100mm carborundum(brand) I glue together with aquadhere that I use on my 635mm sander. Not sure aquadhere would hold up to 3hp though. Haven't had much luck finding joining tape.
