I have both the 1/8 and the 8mm and use the 1/8 the most. You can also get a good wider range set cheaper. I find the 1/8 set from ozmestore to be good enough for general purpose.

    Hi Welder,

    Get both.

If you can only afford one set get the 1/8" set.

Depending on what you intend to do with them you can allways use HSS.

Matched ball bearings can prove handy for accurate support. I have a set of cheap Enco 1/8"parallels along with a small assortment of Starrett and Brown and Sharpe paired parallels. They range from 1/4 x 1/2 to 3/8 x 3/4. I use them all.

The piece of cast iron pictured had a projection on the underside.

    Andre,

When you use the 1/8" parallels to support work in a machine vise, ensure that the parallels sit hard up against the vise jaws. Being narrow, they can easily tilt. It can become tricky trying to hold the parallels in position while locating the work piece.

Wavy parallels can be used as springs to keep things in place.

    Bob.
