Default One for Phil ( Steamwhisperer)

I'd not normally cross post, but this is something special, we had a pleasant visit today from Eddie ( aka TKO) and he happened to be delivering one of his latest scale model projects and it was in the boot of his car...

A magnificiently detailed model of a machine that I know is dear to Phil's heart... full details are here.. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f201/gold-battery-163036/

It looks even better in real life.

Thanks Eddie for the visit very enjoyable.

    Regards
    Ray

EDIT: I had to reload the picture, full size images are in the thread under Gold Battery in the Scale Modelling forum

    aaargh!! I love it Ray.
TKO, where have you been hiding. Having actually operated (and still operating) a battery, it's great to see a scale model with such great detail.
    Thanks again Ray.

Here's funny thing, in the Gold Battery thread over in the scale model forum there's a video of your battery at Sovereign Hill running,

Watching that video, I remembered that engine driving it with the rope drive, and the saga of getting the rope spliced...

That sort of closes the loop nicely...

I must admit I had a giggle when I saw it there too.
Of course I just had to watch it.

    Very nice work Eddie

When i was in yr4 or 5 i went on an excursion to the Mogo gold mine. At the time they still had there battery running (not sure but no doubt they still do) and after a trip down the mineshaft they got all the kids to collect a piece of quartz and it all went onto the machine. I still remember the noise and the ground shaking as the battery did its work. For some reason they didn't demonstrate the use of mercury to separate out the gold (wonder why) but we all go to pan the freshly crushed rock for gold. I still have a couple of specks somewhere......

Well there you go, I drove past that six times over the weekend. Didnt get to stop (though in my defence on Saturday they were burning off the hill behind it)
Fantastic work Eddie, the aging is great. Some of your picture have gone AWOL though.

This is the second time writing this post ,I thought I might try and put a photo in went to manage attachments could not make it work and pressed the wrong bl---y X again1/2 hrs work writing for me just went out the window so I will try again.I'm a slow writer.

I thank you all for the words of encouragement,My visit to Rays was an eye opener for me, and was a very learning experience, plus their generosity and the excellent tea break ,made for a worth while trip, now I can't even remember what I actually wrote the first time, yes I hear what you are all saying.but it does happen some times to many.
Phil I did visit Sovereign Hii back in 1973,and enjoyed that trip,I know that there are many interesting things there to see, but I don;t travel far these days ,I love the old type machines and the blacksmith shop an especialy the old wagon a wheel making sheds,as I am very interested in making old farm wagons and carriages to scale 1/12-1/10-1/8th which I have six here at home and one partly finished, they are not toys so no one gets to play with them.I have a lot of interest in the metal work side of modeling but having moved away from Bright I don't have the expert advise from my retired Engineer friend and have sort of kept away from metal type models like a hit and miss engine I have made 1/4 scale, modeled on the Rowville engine by Peter Bucknell ,and hot air engine although the hot air engine one is now with the same person who has the Gold Battery.

I know that there are photos missing I just lost it with the Bucket and deleted the pics and forgot that they also remove them from any forums that they have been posted to,,it beats me why they have to remove them because you don't want them in the bucket album

Phil should I decide to make another one I know where there is a good place to get a large tooth wheel cut not to far from where I live,I have gone on like a worn out record so I had better shut up and post this before I hit the wrong button again.

    Mate ... What I do ....

If I'm writing a long post, every few minutes, I right click on hit, click copy, and paste it into Notepad which I have open on the desktop. (You can just Alt-Tab between your browser and notepad to bring either to the front. Hold the Alt key down and just toggle the Tab until you get to the window you want)

That way, if something crashes you can just copy it from notepad back into the empty post.

    a suggestion ... Greg
