." What surprises me is how many lurkers we have on these forums as witnessed by the ratio of members to guests and my guess is a lot of members are also mainly lurkers."

I plead guilty to being mainly a lurker but I would not be much use most times.

No need to apologise, a lot of people posting stuff (including me when I look back on some of my own posts, including this one) that are not all that useful either

I never finish or don't end up posting about 1/3rd of the posts I start to write, particularly if they are critical of something. I often write out half a dozen lines and then let it sit for a few minutes and come back to it later and think, " . . just how useful is this post going to be?" before I post it. Even then I have still put my feet in it occasionally.

I think it's great that we have so many listeners. On some US forums I find there is an awful lot of talk but no one is listening.

I love contributing to this forum, doing so in several areas of the forum and enjoy the wealth of information that most bring from their respective areas of expertise.
If however, I was to express a criticism of the forum, it would be that some members, most probably unintentionally can be quite acidic in their responses.
With no disrespect or focus on any particular member, in my view, the comment regarding not receiving a reply in a timely enough fashion and not helping blow ins was unneccesary and unhelpful. With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, the comment probably would not have been made.
As was said earlier, we were all new posters once. We all need to remember that, as we can all have very strong opinions based upon our relative areas of expertise.
The pro's and con's of the job were pointed out to the original poster and several methods of attack were outlined along with warnings of potential pitfalls that could effectively ruin the caravan.
That's a lot of information to take in and digest. He is probably thinking it all out, possibly even trying a couple of test patches, as well as looking after a family and holding down a job.
Let's all be a little more tolerant and do what we do best.

Oddly I agree with Karl and Bryan. It isn't hard to type thanks and if he is as busy as is suspected, ie too busy to log on and type thanks, then he might not have time to polish the van either. Or like me, he may have had a heart attack or some such and got overly involved in getting better.
Gees, how's that for a grand display of fence sitting.
