    I'd say the latter.

I think I might have it. You grind the front face on the TC tooth to sharpen a saw right? This would increase the clearance between the face of one tooth and the back of the next. I'm pretty sure that the back of the teeth are used to limit the feed rate. As that clearance increases your feed rate would as well. I couldn't see a few light sharpenings hurting but after that you might have issues.

    p.s. That's just a guess

    G'day.
I have a $120 TCT Metal cutting blade in a $50 GMC wood cutting drop saw.
Work great. 50mm square solid Steel (yes...SOLID) gets cut through in about 15 seconds.

The trick is to NOT put any too much weight on the blade while cutting.
When it gets blunt, I sent it to SAWTECH at Coffs for sharpening.
$10 and she is ready to go again.

Greg at SAWTECH supplied the blade.

I see you can buy IRWIN metal cutting blades at Bunnies.
    Hooroo.

I bought a Dewalt DW872 earlier this year and it does cut quite well, even to 12mm thick. Haven't done thicker yet and will also cut up to 150X100 RHS. Easily cuts 6mm wall pipe. 355mm Tungsten blade, soft start and 1300rpm X 2400W but not exactly cheap at $920. Advantages are light weight and it's a multi-cutter.
    woodworm.
