A Postcard from Linz
I feel an explanation for my lack of activity on the Forum is in order, I took on a job for ArsElectronica designing some electronics for their KlangeWolke which is part of the big festival at the end of August.. that's kept me sleepless for the last two months.. But now we are here in Linz, I get a narrow window for forum updates.
Linz is a steel city, it's the home of voestalpine (very big in specialty steels) parent company of the likes of Assab and Bohler Udderholm, lots of manufacturing going on, WFL Millturn is also headquartered in Linz.
Saturday was the annual Ritterfest, (Ritter is Knight) streets thronged with people in medieval garb and Knights on horseback galloping down the streets..
Look up Ritterfest Linz on youtube, you'll get the idea.
Already settled into the workspace in the AEC building, so I get to look out over the Danube whilst hacking away at bits of code... (or hardware)
Sorry I'll be missing the big BBQ at Simons.
Wish you were here...
Regards
Ray

Great to hear from you Ray,
Hope you are having fun and I hope you get some time off to see the sights. We want a full report on your return and of course the obligatory pics. I promise to have a quiet one for you at Simons...well, we probably all will.
Stay safe and above all have fun.

Wish I was there.
Hello Ray,
Sounds like you are up to your elbows in it. I hope you can find time to acquaint yourself with the city, its food and more importantly, its beer. Then if you have time and if you can find them, the hardware and second hand tool shops.
I was reading up on the Ars Electronica Centre and found that I would require an infotrainer should I venture into the place. From Wikipedia -
For those who are frightened to be faced with a world too complex and confusing, there are "Infotrainers" to help visitors through the exhibits. The "Infotrainers" are not machines, but humans who can answer questions immediately and show visitors around more than 3000 square meters of exhibition area.
Ha Ha.
Looking forward to hearing more of your exploits.

I am still using the Federal 1/10 thou indicator.
Each time I use it, I think of you, & your kind thought.
Hope all is going well for you.

Hi Ray,
Good to hear from you.
Hope you have a great time and you have a few days to relax once your show is over.
You really should have taken the Victorian camera with you

I visited Ray and Josh recently. They were flat out getting ready for the trip, but took time out to give me the workshop tour and tell me about the project they're working on for the opening ceremony of the festival. It sounded really specky and I hope there will be some footage available after the event. There's nothing much on the website as yet, but I will be keeping an eye on it: THE BIG PICTURE. It's true I may be easily impressed by some things - like electronics - but I still thought what they were doing was was clever and gutsy, and it's great to know we can export that sort of talent. Hope I'm not embarrassing them, but they wouldn't blow their own horns. Hope it all goes great for you guys!

Thanks for the kind wishes..
Here's one for BT, I was waiting at the bus stop and noticed that just around the corner from our apartment was this pretty swish looking Porsche Museum, set up temporarily in the old Tabak factory. I found a link on line..
Porsche - Design, Mythos, Innovation
I haven't been there yet, but I'll take the camera when I do..
On a more serious note, the beer comes in 1/2 liter bottles and a 6 pack will set you back a little under 6 euros... not a bad drop on a hot humid summer's day.. oh, and cig's are 4.5 euro per pack. Nice place..
More later..
Regards
Ray
