    Default Power S3 Surface grinder

    Hi All,

just creating a thread to chronicle my exploits fixing / using the Power S3 surface grinder I picked up a short time ago.

This is what it currently looks like

and a short video of the first test can be found here

Jayson's Gallery | Videos | Power S3 Surface grinder testing

Its not all that interesting to watch but I do like that fact that it works

As yet I have done nothing to the unit apart wire a new plug and install the magnetic chuck borrowed from Harty (thanks)

    watch this space...

    Jayson.

    Hi Jayson,

Congratulations on getting it back safely from Adelaide

Looks to be in pretty good condition. Does it have coolant?

I thought there was a mag chuck that came with it?

    Regards
    Ray

PS... You'll love having a surface grinder, great for stock preparation and finishing..

Nice looking machine Jayson. I will follow your exploits with interest.

I don't know if you have any information about the grinder's maker, Pauer and Co. but you may find something of interest here - "Power" precision grinders, special purpose machines / Pauer & Co. Pty. Ltd | National Library of Australia.

There are some interesting comments made here about Pauer history by Chris Vesper

Oh my... what have i done...
    I think I may have a problem
Today one of the blokes at work asked if I had a piece of steel he could use as a paperweight, nothing special, just something to hold some paper down.
Of course I did, that wouldn't be a problem... but it was.

The piece of steel I had was all covered in rust and mill scale which would make it totally unsuitable for weighing down paper, so off to the grinder it went.

    These are the results:

There are a few scratches on one side as I have as yet not ground the chuck and it has a few dings but I want to make sure everything is OK first.

Ray, no there is no coolant on it yet but I do plan on rigging something up at a later stage. There was a magnetic chuck but it was remover 2 weeks previous to go on another grinder unfortunately. It does appear to be in fairly good condition, there are a few worn parts but I'm sure these will be easily fixed. I will post progress on this as I get to them.

Anorak Bob thanks for the links, some good reading there, hopefully I will have exploits worthy of your interest.

Still a lot for me to learn but I think it grinds fairly well considering I have not started fixing anything yet.

    More soon hopefully

    Jayson.

Yup. Definitely looks like a problem. Bring it back to Adelaide and I'll see if I can sort it for you (I think dressing the wheel should get rid of those marks).

Was doing a bit of surfing and came across when Repco bought out Pauer and Co... It was in 1960
