Powtran VFD
good news.
i recently get in contact with Powtran and they are confirmed that the 415v 3 phase output can be purchase and is not they standard VFD . look like they have workout the way to made they VFD to output 415v 3 phase . i will be getting some to try out as i see good report about this brand.
now the question for guys here is . they ask me the Output current I need , i already told them I will power the 3 horse power motor which is 2.2kw . they said the current output is 5.1A but they want me to confirm this .
can some one here know what Current output I should get for my 3 HP Motor ?
Cheers
Peter

Peter. I have one of those on my mill, if I was to buy again I would get a bigger one.
My motor is 3hp also, I bought a PI9000 2.2kW, 3-phase 415VAC, 5.1A,
It works well, but it goes into a fault (over current) and stops, even when I set the ramp up acceleration and deceleration to 15 seconds,
from memory it does this at about 75 hz, I can get it higher if I gently adjust the speed by the pot/knob.
Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can shed some light on this, but I feel a larger VFD would be the answer.

ps. a brake resistor would solve the deceleration problem, about 30 bucks I think ?Last edited by shedhappens; 7th August 2015 at 06:59 PM. Reason: more

For what its worth the Huanyang manual lists the output current of their 3 phase 380V input 2.2kW as 5.0A.
Their 220V model is 10A..........So I'm guessing its per phase.....I'm not sure talking about total makes sense??

Yeah, convention with 3 phase current is to refer to a single phase for current.
I'm no electrical guru but by my reckoning, if the motor was delta wound then the current in one phase would go out the other two so total current would be zero... right?

Peter, sorry but I don't think I am the right bloke to be advising you on this, these things are alien technology to me.
I suggest that you email Chris at Powtran [email protected] he is very helpful, other than that there are others in here that are pretty cluey with this star wars type of technology,
My personal thoughts are that I should have bought a 4 hp VFD.
