Prvomajska AL-100 Deckel Clone
I have decided to start this post on this mill for sale on e-bay so as not to clog up the e-bay and sales thread.
If anybody is interested in this mill I have found a few particulars out about this model. They are long out of production and parts unavailable. Some Deckel$$$$ parts may interchange (mainly castings but drive gears are a different pressure angle.) This machine may well be the only one in this country. I have not found any mention of another. As has been said in a previous thread; it is a lot of mill for its size considering all the accessories. It has a very small work envelope with small travels- longitude = 310mm, cross = 170mm, vertical = 290mm. Basically smaller than a Sieg X3 or a smallish shoe box on its side.
Weight 700kg. 4mt arbors and 75mm quill travel. Has power feeds on X and Z travels. Horizontal spindle clearance is negligable.
There also appears to be numerous covers and bellows missing from all leadscrews, no square drive handle. longitudal feed missing right handle and replaced with ball handle from other end, upper quill cover missing. The motor should be a 2hp two speed version, but no mention of 1ph or 3 ph. I am guessing 3ph; but would most likely be unsuitable for a VSD. The seller was quick to point out that it has new drive belts; but "overlooked" the above faults. There may be even more. He states that "everything works"; but no mention of the machine correctly operating under power. The power control box appears disconnected. It would require 2 pallets for freighting which would almost double the cost to southern states. The price has increased $400 to $2900 in 18 months. WHY has it been in storage for 14 years??
Would I like it;- hell yes, just because no-one else has one and I can't afford a Deckel fp1.
I have decided to pass over this unit because of the above concerns; as well as the travels are too small for my purposes and I would not entrust such a rare beast to a freight company (bearing in mind that a new replacement vertical head is in $7700 + ex Germany and then there is the drive gear conversion). I would not be happy towing a trailer 2300 kms to find it not suitable. I would not buy it sight unseen.
It may well be a diamond in the rough; but could also be a blue lemon.

Be aware that when speaking about 1960's machines sometimes assumptions can be faulty:
Deckel FP1s and likely the Macmon/Provsmanska mill did not have quill drawbar covers until the next generation. Big dwal, they aren't much more than yoghurt containers which can be shop made to suit.
This is the third mill of its kind that i have seen on ebay in 5 years. Gears are standard module 1.5 with either 14.5 or 20.0 degree pressure angle. Other accessories like the dividing head and high speed spindle head bolt right on.
While you can certainly compare envelopes with lesser machines like an RF45, the rigididty and precision of a Euro mill of this calibre is beyond comparison with those other mills.
