The Dressers.
Hi billrule,
Also in the same way, no paper work to prove anything.
My 6" Wheels are the WAOxide ones for Wood Turning Chisels mainly.
These wheels are reasonably soft, but they still have to be Dressed.
I was given a Brickies Wheel, that had about 5mm.of Diamond left on the edge of this Steel Wheel.
Used a Texta to draw a line from Centre to a Notch, which ended up approx. 75mm. wide of Diamond to use.
Cut with the Angle Grinder & those beautiful 2mm.x 125mm.Cutting Wheels. I just cleaned up the cut edges, & away you go.
Does a marvelous job, costs very little, & like what was said a Dust Mask is a good idea.
They also work on my Grey Wheels, & I don't think I could do them any faster or better with the Star Wheels.
Regards,
issatree.Regards,
issatree.

Thanks for your starwheel dresser summary, Pipeclay.
I gotta admit to laziness - when I use the starwheel, I don't move the rest back. It works, but not as accurate a finish I guess.

A couple of extra points to consider, especially when using star wheel dressers:
always have the grinder firmly attached to something solid, you are using the rest as a lever and pushing the star wheels against the grinding wheel, If the grinder moves there could be an accident and secondly; try and do the dressing away from any machinery, cars, washing etc. as a cloud of grinding dust is generated.
Mm.
