Quick and Easy Fly Cutter
Back in my pre milling machine days, I had need of a fly cutter with a wider than normal swing. I had a spare catch plate which I thought would do the trick.
The only modication required of the plate was facing the rear of the slot to provide a flat surface for the tool holder to bolt to.
The tool holder was made from a section of one inch 1214 hex bar, through drilled to accommodate a 1/4'' round HSS cutter. I've used a 5/8' W locknut to reduce the rear projection.
The usefulness of the fly cutter was later enhanced when, after making an arbor with a matching 1 1/2 x 8 thread, I was able to mount it in the verticle and horizontal spindles of my little mill.

Good thinking Bob, could also be done to a face plate for guys that don't have a drive plate.
I saw something similar done from a guy in the US last year facing a aluminum slab on his lathe.
