Quick and easy modification
I found the knurling tool that came with my QCTP left a lot to be desired, so a couple of hours later, Much Better,
Leroy.

With no photo of the original and no description it's not clear what you've done.

Do a search for AXA BXA CXA holders and you will see what it should look like.

Nice job and clear photos.
I built one similar a while back but my knurls are where your handle is.
It takes knurling to a hole new world as there is no real strain on the lathe.
Do you get much side movement with that set up?

Nice job Leroy. My knurling tool is a standard (non clamp type) does this put excessive stress on the lathe bearings? Should I look at replacing with a similar one to this one?

For aluminum it's fine but for steel these type are far better, With the push knurl you need a lot of pressure which will wear you cross slide nut and stresses everything involved.
These type make deep knurling in steel a pleasure to do.
I made a complete unit with side to stop any sideway movement and the clamp thread on the end which makes it even easier to clamp down. I ended up making a new handle because I could not get the leverage, but that worked out better with a strait handle because I could easily count the revolutions for repeatable knurling so they are all the same.

Hi Dave,no there's no side play, the fingers are a firm fit in the slot in the dovetail holder which also means a spring is not needed
to hold them apart due to friction, may change in the future, I put some flats on the nut under the knurled knob so I can tighten it down with a spanner and as you say its a whole new world! mine is not as good looking as yours, I might smarten it up a bit now I see how good it works, something extra, below is a photo of my main project which I'm using to teach myself how to use a lathe and mill, its not finished yet and there are many attachments can be made for it and who knows it might turn out to be a usefull tool and cutter grinder.
Leroy.

That looks great, keep us updated as you go as I am sure a lot of us would be interested if it all works out.
