After some old railway bolts / spikes, Brisbane area
Greetings all,
hope everyone is enjoying some holiday downtime.
I'm after some old railway bolts (the round headed ones) & spikes - looking to clean them up to make some mini stakes for my copper work
Anyway in the Brissie area that'd like to offload some in exchange for beer/coin?
Also if anyone has any old screwdrivers/masonry nails etc they'd like to ditch, I'd be happy to take these too - trying to make my own metal stamps / chasing tools.
Thanks folks!
Cheers,
Helen

The Spikes.
Hi Helen,
Not sure if this is legal, but go for a walk around the Railway Yards, & your'e bound to find some, even on the tracks.
Of course you could ask for a few from a Railway Worker, & might not cost anything.Regards,
issatree.

Good point - 'some' is pretty vague
minimum 1, maximum 5 for bolts (have learnt they are 'fish bolts', thnx Jim)
And as for spikes, 2 to 10 would be awesome.
thnx everyone,
H

I have some in Victoria, don't know if the cost of postage is worth it to you.
I use them in my black smithing…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

Helen, at Lowood station (the line there closed 30 or 40 years ago but the station and shunting tracks are still there), there are old spikes etc lying among the weeds. At Laidley station there are disused side tracks which also have dead spikes, fish plates etc lying around. No fences to climb or in use tracks to cross at either of these locations.
What you are after should not be too hard to find in similar settings, there are lots of dead branch lines and stations in SE Qld. I imagine that the replaced items were supposed to go back to the depot for scrap, but a lot were left on the ground.

Hi Helen,
Are you interested in smaller dome headed bolts too? I have quite a few like the lower one in the photo which were removed from the hubs on old wood-spoked car wheels. You are welcome to a few if they are of any use to you.
Frank.

Thanks everyone, appreciate y'all taking the time to respond.
DSEL74 I might have gotten on to a couple up here in Qld, will see how it goes, but thanks so much for the offer.
Thanks Bob, that's great to know (I wasn't sure where would be a good place to start fossicking).
Frank, I could definitely do with 2 of those if you can spare them. Will PM you, thanks.
Ew nah didn't end up with any FB ones, but then remembered how helpful this forum had been previously, & came galloping back here Will let you know how I get on.
