REM filter
Finally, I have a bandsaw filter that works.
Thought someone might be interested in this bandsaw filter I’ve been trying out for the last couple of weeks weeks - coolant is still nice and white. It’s comprised of a 25mm ID plastic coupling with tap/hose connectors each end. Internally there are four 20mm REMs held apart by three 10mm long spacers. You can see the very fine swarf on the first magnet, very little gets through to the second, third and fourth. In front of this filter is a normal reticulation filter which filters the larger particles, wood, etc, the coolant then flows into the REM filter, swirls around the REMs where most of the very fine swarf is picked up.

Nice idea of using Rare Earth Magnets.

What type of pump are you using? Is it really that sensitive to small particles? If so what happens when you cut non ferrous materials?

???
It's not so much a problem with the pump since I changed to a gear pump; but, The swarf from cutting steel is so fine, the coolant soon deteriorates into a dirty sludgy mess if not filtered. Don't have an answer for non ferrous particles, but I can't remember the last time I cut a piece of brass or aluminium anyway, so I'm not too worried about that.
