This is why I've not ditched the variator from mine. You need to install a countershaft with a 2:1 ratio to get the torque multiplication you'll lose by running a VFD at low frequencies. OK this isn't the end of the world having a belt to shift every so often but it's still a PITA if the variator works well enough.
One day maybe I'll do it but it'll be with a 5HP motor if I can get one to fit in the space. Or I'll just buy a 10EE.
