Question Replacement ball valve oilers/oil hole covers

    Hi all,

Where can I get hold of some replacement ball valve oilers and oil hole covers? So there is no confusion about what I am after, I have attached two photos of these items.

I need 6mm OD size fittings - at least one of each, but preferably three of each. They are to replace some damaged fittings removed from my NEW secondhand lathe - they had been crushed at some time in its past. I have tracked them down in the US and UK - from www.gitsmfg.com and www.adamslube.com but I have had no luck in Oz - and I dont know who to ask.

I look forward to reading your replies - the members of this forum have been batting a 100% so far.

    Ciao

    Hi markjaffa,
Try Blackwoods, they have a Branch in WA. If they dont have one they may know where to get one or could order in for you.

    Regards,
    Keith.

I'd be interested in knowing as well. I had to replace a couple of the ball oiler types when the internal springs collapsed.

I tried Blackwoods and most of the other engineering suppliers in Adelaide - no luck anywhere.

I eventually got some of the flip lid types from General Tools (H&F agents in Adelaide) but at a cost of $8.00 each and after waiting for about a month.

When I went back to get some more they were told by their suppliers that they would only supply more if the order value was over $250!

They ship to Oz, but sometimes their shipping charges can be a bit exxy.

Don't know about local source, but would also like to replace some of mine particularly the ball oilers.

Blackwoods have the oil hole covers with flip up lids listed in the 16th ed cat (couple of years old now) but the cat number doesn't bring up anything on their web site.

    numbers are 03042010 1/4"bsp Mfr no 1928
    03043417 1/4"bsp Mfr no 1938
01507365 1/2"BSP complete with wick Mfr no 1960WF

    Ok
Alemite makes them, they are called "flush type drive oiler fitting"
    Alemite part number 1814
    & 1877 for the midget

    see the attached pic.

You will have to chase up where to get them here in Aus but I'm sure any industrial supply place like Blackwoods would be able to get them in.

    regards

    Markjaffa,

Got this link from Woodlee the other day - believe he recently acquired some from them and recommends them .........you could drop him a PM if you want the specifics and sure he would be only too willing to steer you right - I've looked at a few local manufacturers/suppliers also but their prices are a rip off given the strength of our $ so I intend to get mine of RDG soon. I've found the springs on the Chinese ones tend to collapse too easily and it's no fun as most metal workers would know when your balls disappear into the gears and sink into the cold oil Unfortunately I can't replace all mine with cups so need ball detentes as well...give them a try......Lee

Funnily enough I found the supplier that brittleheart posted after I got my oilers from RDG in the UK ,I was after the flip cap cup oiler not the button oilers .
I got two of each size and replaced the wicks with pipe cleaners to slow down the oil feed , but they are still too fast ,I need to experiment with wick material until I get the right speed .
I'm going to try some woollen felt next .The wicks that came with the oilers were just string ,like the brown furry stuff you get from the news agent for tying parcels.I didn't actually try it first to see if they were ok .DUH!!!

    Found another supplier in Aus.
They are described as "toilet seat" oil cups (descriptive if not technical).
