The rf40 is done

This is the machine i bought from the Trash and Treasure at the Tip last year whilst not restored it is tarted up a bit. Some members will remember the trouble with a Earth Fault with the new VFD,after my blood pressure hit the roof with a few emails to China I decided to bin it a save for a quality VFD from OZ.
My sparky neighour said he would take it to a electronic's mate and he replaced some dodgy wires and cleaned swarf from between heatsink and some connections and it ran.
I replaced quill bearings, checked the downfeed gearbox which had a crash at some stage, made 1 handle and some spoofy brass knobs + paint.
Jobs to do are a door and fan on vfd box,quill lock lever,emery the pillar again and shout it a new chuck [17 thou runout only 3 thou at quill].
The Photo's show a hole in the head mounting were a 1/4 inch lock pin went through
[a good story to that one i think] also a test hole in 10 mm with 1&1/8 dull drill at
50 RPM on slow downfeed with no pilot hole.
The motor has Frequency squeal at about 4 out of 10 scale, not annoying, do you vfd guru's think this can be improved.

Hi Whitey,

Nice machine recovery and restoration, especially from trash and treasure..

I take it that the noise is a high pitched whine? If it's annoying, you could try increasing the carrier frequency, try setting PD041=10

I had the same problem and Ray said to change those settings and it worked great.
Whats the story about the tip, someone dumped it,

You have done a great job to bring it back from the dead, looks the good now.

Thanks Ray I will change that setting.
Dave and Stuart, Our larger tips have these T&T shops and when dumping if you have something that can be sold on you drop it off before going to the tip face. The drill had $400 on it so I went home and did my homework, I went back with a Dial Gauge and checked the Quill and offered them $200 and picked it up. This is the best thing i have seen in the shop still beggars me why someone would dump it through and for that price i could not leave it there.
I have spent $600 all up.
Stuart. I will put a E/stop on soon and maybe it's own power circuit with switch.

Thats a nice score, good jop on the cleanup too. Thats a nice big hole! Shame about the casting around the pin, it just shows how some people believe brute force fixes everything.

I was in my local bearing place this week getting some bronze for Freddie, and the owner was asking me what it was for. He then, to my horror, told me that some years ago he saw a shaper at the local revolve, "must have been as big as a commodore" he said.....
it really does amaze me what people will throw away.

$200,

We have that sort of thing at out tips as well, but it's usually only junky stuff there, no machinery as that goes to the scrap place which is closer for everybody to go to.

That was a really great score for $200, you could put a X/Y table on it to do some light milling with it as well. You can buy the X/Y tables new for $200.

Good job again on the fix up, and I am sure if you where to sell it tomorrow you would make a tidy profit, so money well spent.
