Secondhand Steel Source - Brisbane
Hi,
Does anyone know of a place, preferably on the southside of Brisbane, that sells cheaper steel offcuts, seconds or scrap steel.
There used to be a place at Coopers Plains but that's long gone.

United Scrap Metal sell various scrap metals but they don'tr have heaps of normal steel, mainly stainless and ally. Normal MS gets shipped out pretty quick.
MetalCorp sometimes have 2nds of pipe and RHS.
Personally I find it worth hunting around of new steel...prices vary between retailers. I find Gateway Steel one of the better for price generally.Cheers

Depends on what you are looking for. Was a place on the north side near Virginia (name escapes me atm) that was really good for stainless.
If you go new I would ask for a quote from Gateway steel as they have beaten others hands down most of the time. Only drama is getting into thier yard. Pain in the behind.
Shane.

Thanks for the suggestions - I will try that Gateway mob for any lengths I need.
I was looking for some scraps of 10mm or thicker mild steel plate about 300mm square roughly to make the tops for some machinery stands etc.

Mate Gateway have lengths of 300mm flat bar that they can chop bits off for you(I was eying it off last time I was there). It will be heaps cheaper and easier that getting plate cut or finding suitable offcuts of plate. I'm only guessing but I would reckon @ $60 a metre.
Cheers

I was there today.....again
One of those funny things when they start to recognise home purchasers due to frequency of visits.
When you walk in, look through the door at the rack of flat bar just inside the main shed area. 300mm flat bar up to 20mm from my quick look this morning.Cheers
