    Default RT on hm46

just like to know if anyone is using a 200mm rotary table on a 45 size mill , if so do you find it a good size for the mill or is the 200mm rt a bit to large or awkward on the 45 /hm46 mill .
i have a 150mm vertex rt and just rekon the 200mm would be a bit more handy specially for machining a 6" fltwheel but am worried it may be a bit to big .

I have one (Vertex HV-8) for my 45. It fits perfectly. It gives me plenty of space to work. It is a bit heavy, but it is not too bad. I have mounted it on my table and had my vice (Vertex VA-5) next to it a few times. In the photos below you can see my 200mm lathe chuck mounted to the rotary table. The good thing about the Vertex HV-8 and the 200mm K11 front mount chuck is that the slots in the rotary table line up perfectly with the holes in the chuck. So no backing plate is necessary which saves a few $.

    Hi Johno,

    No, it's not too big.

Generally the bigger the better, the limit is really down to what you can lift and fixturing is always when you've got a larger surface to work with, if you plan on using it vertically with a tailstock, Z axis space might be an issue.

ok thanks for the replies . i was going to get the 200 in the first place when i bought the mill a few months ago but the guy at h&f said the 150 would be better on that mill so i came away with the 150 rt, i can see his reasons but i think the 200 will be more use to me .
i bought the front mount 160mm chuck and a set of soft jaws when i bought the mill and vice (125mm ) and rt i have a mate here who has offered to buy the table and the chuck from me for what i paid for it ( its unused so far ) that way he saves the frieght and it wont cost me much to change up to the bigger job couple of hundred i think .
here is a pic of the 150 sitting on the mill , looks a bit small to me next to the vice . if i could i would keep it and get the bigger one aswell but that will make the whole deal a bit expensive .
just noticed a spot of rust on the vice better attend to that pronto , 42 degrees in my shed i have been staying out of there the last week or 2 .
